Cute French Armoire

I love, love, love how this piece turned out.  This armoire is painted cream with light distressing and then a wax coat to finish it off.  I really contemplated painting the inside a fun color like purple or teal blue but I'm glad I went traditional and used the cream paint for the inside as well.  This piece was really scratched up and full of cat hair!  Seriously, did the cat live in it?  I had to spend a lot of time with the clorox wipes and then sanding out all those scratches before i could paint.  I found the cute blingy knobs at Hobby Lobby--they really finish the piece off.

Turquoise Table

So my friend had a nice solid counter height table with 6 chairs that needed a face lift.  Structurally in great shape, but a small fire caused a few damage spots on the chairs and on the leaf of the table. She picked a really bright turquoise blue from Valspar called Laguna Green.  I have to admit I was a little scared about how bright green it was.  But after the glaze and distressing it is the perfect pop of color in her kitchen.  She wanted the top to have a more rustic/reclaimed wood look so I just did a really light stain on it just to bring out the distressing on it.

Yellow

So here's the before...
Pretty beat up.  I decided the bottom was not worth the effort to save since the wood on the sides was so beat up.  I didn't get a picture but the veneer on the top was peeling so bad that I had to chip it all off.  No big deal since I was planning on painting it anyways.

After carefully prying the top piece off from the ugly bottom portion I added some cute legs from Lowe's and here's what I ended up with.  Cute and Yellow and perfect for the tiny little space in my toilet room.

Vanity and Dresser Set

~~~~~~~SOLD~~~~~~~
Beautiful painted Antique Dresser and Vanity made by Basset painted in a Cinderella/Tiffany Blue. I was getting a little worried when I started painting since it was looking really sky blue but when I got the glaze on it turned out perfectly. I did a lot of distressing and glazing to bring out the gorgeous details of the furniture. Wood tops are stained a dark reddish brown --the color is Kona by Rustoleum. I can't say enough about how great this stain is. It soaks into the wood quickly and evenly. Both pieces are coated with a protective finish. I used Minwax satin polyurethane on the tops to protect the wood and Minwax Paste Wax on the paint. Quality Solid wood pieces with dove tail drawers and origional hardware. I am in love with the long legs on casters on this set.
Vanity measures 44 inches wide x 18 inches deep x 31 1/2 inches tall Mirror is removable and measures 40 inches tall
Dresser meaures 34 inches wide x 46 1/2 inches tall by 20 inches wide.
Cool Vintage Dresser
~~~~~~~SOLD~~~~~~~~

I normally don't do pieces of furniture that are plastic but this one was almost free so I decided it might be fun to see what I could do with it. The dresser is made by Bassett Furniture and has solid wood drawers with dove-tail details but has these weird plastic drawer fronts with cool scroll details.

I made a little more work for myself than necessary by not using an oil based primer on the plastic part. I will never do that again! After stripping that all off I restarted with an awesome spray primer --the best ever--Rustoleums Painters Touch Ultra Cover Primer. It is specifically formulated for all types of materials including plastics. Then I painted the dresser with a gray oops paint and glazed with Rustoleum Kona Stain that I diluted with mineral spirits so it wouldn't go on as strong and use as much product. Then used Minwax paste wax and lots of elbow grease to buff it to a soft sheen.

I'm actually pretty impressed with how it turned out.

Old Mission Style Coffee Table Turned Cute Craft Table

I wish I had a before picture to show you all, but this is a project I made quite a few years ago. I found a really solid mission style coffee table at Goodwill for super cheap--like $25. The top was in pretty rough shape and got quite a bit of sanding action. I used a hammer to tap off the existing legs and replaced them with fence posts from Lowes--again super cheap. I secured them with dowels and glue like the origional legs, but for extra stability, I used L-shaped backets and wood screws.

My husband thought it was a great idea to let our kids use it for an "Art Studio" but after a few years of "ART" it again needed a good sanding. So here it is for the second refinish now as my sewing/craft table. I stained the top dark brownish black and painted the stools and bottom portion white. I did some of my usual distressing and put on a top coat. Just for fun, I thought I would try a new technique for the protective coat. Instead of poly urathane on the top, I used a water based poly acrylic in my sprayer. This started out as a diaster. I waited for a nice calm day with no breeze got it all sprayed on and while it was drying my neighbors landscaping crew showed up and started blowing her yard. I wanted to scream! So I had to spend some time wet sanding the top to get all the dust nibs out. URGG!
